Queen II - Procession
#
Time / Cue
Description & Interpretation
1
0:00–0:08 — Fade-in low drone
Opens like a procession
: solemn and slow. No synthesizers — this is entirely multi-tracked guitars(Red Special) layered to emulate organ/strings.
2
0:08–0:20 — Chordal “choir” swells
A guitar orchestra
: stacked chords with volume swells
and subtle delay, creating a choir-like texture; a hallmark of Brian May’s palette.
3
0:20–0:35 — Fanfare motif
Short fanfare-like
phrase (fifths/thirds movement) sets a regal, ceremonial tone — framing the album’s theatrical identity.
4
0:35–0:50 — Counterlines darken
Counter-melodies enter; harmonies turn darker (minor inflections), foreshadowing the mood of the “Black Side.”
5
0:50–1:05 — Build & harmonic cadence
Slow swell toward a cadence; multiple guitar layers move like a miniature orchestra. Still instrumental — a pure prelude
to the next track.
6
1:05–end — Segue into “Father to Son”
Closing chords flow seamlessly
into track 2, establishing the tonal/atmospheric runway for the album proper.
Note: Instrumental by Brian May. Layered Red Special guitars; no synths.
